Animals are sentient beings with interests and intrinsic worth of their own. They should not be treated in law solely as property or commodities. We support legal protections that recognize animals as beings whose lives, wellbeing, relationships and needs matter in their own right, with interests that people and institutions have a responsibility to respect and protect.

Wild animals should not be handled, held, posed with or used for close-contact entertainment or tourism. Direct human contact should occur only when it is genuinely necessary for the animal’s welfare, such as veterinary care, rescue or rehabilitation, or for a clearly defined conservation purpose, and should be carried out by qualified people using methods that minimize stress and harm.

Primates and other wild animals should not be kept as private pets. Their social, cognitive, physical and environmental needs are complex, and private ownership can cause serious welfare problems while also contributing to capture, breeding and trade. Wild animals belong in their natural habitats whenever possible. Animals who cannot safely return to the wild should receive species-appropriate care in legitimate rescue, rehabilitation or sanctuary settings that do not exploit them for breeding, trade, entertainment or public handling.

Primates and other wild animals should not be trained, compelled or displayed for human entertainment, advertising, tourism or social-media content. Their intelligence and social complexity do not make them performers for human use. Entertainment should never depend on coercion, inappropriate handling or conditions that compromise their welfare.

Wild animals and their bodies should not be treated simply as commodities. We oppose trade that drives capture, killing, cruelty, illegal trafficking or conservation harm, including trade for luxury, status, novelty or entertainment. Where wildlife use is connected to subsistence, culture or community livelihoods, it should be considered in its ecological, social and cultural context rather than reduced to a simple commercial transaction.

Wildlife should not be captured or bred primarily for the pet trade, entertainment, tourist attractions, luxury products or other forms of commercial exploitation.

We oppose hunting for recreation, sport, trophies, status or entertainment, while recognizing that some Indigenous and subsistence communities rely on hunting as part of meeting basic needs and sustaining cultural lifeways. That reliance does not make hunting desirable, but it does make the context fundamentally different from hunting by choice.

Non-human animals and their bodies should not be used in ways that disregard their intrinsic worth or intentionally cause pain, suffering or harm for human benefit.
